Top Diving Careers
The underwater world is a unique place where there is a lot of colorful marine life to see. And if you’ve seen documentaries about the marine world, then you know how beautiful it is. However, for some people the undersea world is more than a place where they visit occasionally. For some people the undersea world is essentially their office. Below is a list of professions that are available for divers who have achieved the proper certification and level of expertise.
- Dive Instructor: Being a dive instructor comes with a fair amount of responsibility so it is not as dreamy as it seems. Instructors have the responsibility of teaching students techniques that will not only make diving more fun, but that may also save lives in certain circumstances. On the flip side, being an instructor can also be very rewarding when the fruits of one’s instruction are seen. Overall, if you’re looking for a job that combines teaching and diving then instructor might be the right career for you.
- Underwater photographer: Someone has to capture all that beauty and relay it to people who will never experience the joy of diving. Those people are underwater photographers who work with special equipment to capture sea flora and fauna. It is their job to explore places such as coral reefs, shipwrecks, and caves and capture the beauty there without disturbing the environment.
- Marine archaeologist: Marine archaeologists spend their time studying the ocean floor looking for shipwrecks and sites that might contain human remains and other items of interest. They also help direct people who wish to build structures on the ocean floor. This job, as you might expect, not only requires scuba certification, it also requires you to have an education in archeology.
- Police divers: Police divers hunt for clues and evidence related to criminal investigations. This can include items as diverse as dead bodies, weapons and other evidence.
- Naval diver: To be a naval diver you must of course be a member of the Armed Forces. They receive underwater training that closely matches that of offshore and inshore commercial divers. However, as a member of the Navy you would have to work under a very strict leadership structure.
