Exercises to Prepare Physically for Scuba Diving
Maui scuba diving is a very strenuous activity that is an excellent form of exercise.
However, it is also extremely relaxing and good for the soul. There are many ways to help
prepare your body for the strenuous feat that is scuba diving. Your muscles will face continuous
resistance in the water so you will want to make sure that you are in the best possible physical
condition. Below are a few areas of your body you will want to condition prior to scuba diving.
Feet and calf strengtheners: These are important because you will be kicking vigorously
for long periods of time with your fins on. Strengthening your calves will help you be
able to dive for longer periods of time.
Core work: Core work is always important with any physical exercise. Having a strong
core will help stabilize you in the water.
Leg work: As with strengthening your calves your entire leg needs to be strong in order
to efficiently swim with all of your gear on.
Shoulders and back exercises: Your shoulders and back will carry the weight of the gear
and it is important that you strengthen them so as not to do any damage.
Yoga and cardio: Yoga will help to improve your breathing exercises and maintain your
sense of calm when in the water. Cardio will improve your overall ability to swim for
longer periods of time.
A 45-minute dive will burn approximately 500 calories. This is why it is so important to
maintain your physical fitness to be able to sustain yourself under water. You would hate to cut
your dive time short simply because you felt underprepared physically. If you need help
