Common Dive Mistakes

Maui Scuba Mike is proud to offer beginner private scuba lessons Maui. He always takes safety precautions very seriously to ensure the safety of all students. It is important that you remember these precautions when you start to go out on your own and are no longer a beginner. These precautions will help to keep you safe and enjoy diving for years to come. Below is a list of common mistakes that get divers into trouble that you will want to avoid.

  1. Neglecting health and fitness:

Scuba diving is a very physically active activity, and it is important that you make sure you are in prime physical condition. Making sure that you are building up your lung capacity, core, arm, and leg strength consistently will help you maintain your safety and become a better diver.

  1. Not maintaining gear:

All of your diving gear will need regular maintenance. Once you get to the level of owning your own equipment you will want to make sure that you know how to properly care for it. You can get into real trouble if you do not properly maintain your gear.

  1. Diving beyond your training:

It is important that you slowly work up your stamina and skill level. This is why diving with a buddy is so important. Try to make sure you only push yourself a little bit each time and never dive outside of your comfort or physical capabilities.

  1. Lack of situational awareness:

Consistently monitoring your surroundings is part of the proper dive technique. This allows you to help maintain your presence in relationship to your buddy as well as any sea life that you may be near. Make sure that you know where you are at all times in relation to your boat and exit strategy.
