Maui Scuba Diving: 5 Myths Busted
Dive Into Your Maui Adventure
By Maui Scuba Mike August 2015 In: Maui Scuba Diving Insights
Are you one of those people who pictures yourself on a adventure diving deep underwater, experiencing amazing underwater beauty, only to rationalize yourself into staying on the shore? Maybe it’s the fear of the unknown or the story you heard about ocean monsters, or being uncomfortable or perhaps not knowing if it was worth the time and investment.
Scuba Mike thinks it’s time to put to rest the myths and excuses and take the challenge by saying yes to adventure and start turning your scuba diving dreams into scuba diving realities!
We’ve heard every myth and detraction and would like to offer you the following answers to five common Maui SCUBA diving misconceptions:
1) “I won’t see any fish.”
Untrue. Maui waters are packed with millions of underwater species just waiting to light up your scuba dive with excitement and color! The underwater coastlines boast large schools of effervescent fish, marine animals, and reef formations. Bring your artistic eye for discovery on an underwater photography dive with Scuba Mike – the images will take your breath away!
2) “The reef system is dead”
Wrong. The clear blue waters of Maui are home to some of the world’s largest and most active coral reefs. Featuring lava rock formations and coral gardens. Through extensive conservation methods, the coral reefs of Maui are alive and flourishing. At Maui Scuba Mike’s we believe in caring for our planet and teach each student diver proper underwater etiquette to keep our ecosystem vibrant for now and the future.
3) “I don’t want to fight crowds of snorkeling tourists underwater”
Scuba Mike coordinates with exclusive dive adventures for small groups and private dives that escape from the tourist trap confusion. Because Maui Scuba Mike wants your scuba dive to be extraordinary, he arranges his dives off the beaten paths to give his divers the full effect of this magical underwater landscape.
4) “We won’t be able to see anything – the water is too murky!”
Maui’s underwater visibility is breathtaking and provides views hundreds of feet in any direction on most days. It is not unheard of to achieve water visibility of 200 plus feet on a typical Maui day. The underwater depths of Maui are clean and protected from harsh currents creating the ultimate conditions for scuba diving.
5) “The water is cold and choppy.”
In Maui, our ocean water is warm all year long. With mostly calm waves at our dive spots and rare storms. West and south shores are hidden from the trade winds where are favorite Maui dive sites are located. The South and West shores of Maui avoid much of the temperature swings and unwanted weather conditions, and we only dive when the conditions are best for the dive site.
6) “I can’t afford to purchase expensive scuba diving equipment.”
We got you covered! No Expensive Equipment Necessary! Scuba Mike’s dive packages include all scuba gear and tanks. We invest in the latest diving technology to ensure maximum safety of our divers. Not only will you enjoy amazing underwater sites but you will never be forced to purchase expensive equipment – we are happy to share!
