4 Scuba diving Tips for Beginners

Taking the opportunity to get to know a different side of the ocean is an awesome way to spend some of your vacation time. Scuba diving not only provides education into conservation efforts being done to protect our marine life but also allows you to see beloved sea creatures in their natural habitats. Beginners should be aware of the following few tips to best prepare for a dive.

Hydrate, snack, hydrate- Although you could already be drinking several glasses of water a day for your health, make sure to drink a lot of water prior to your dive as well. Eating a good meal full of protein or picking  up a snack before your dive is ideal. We cannot stress enough how important it is to drink water. This helps to prevent dehydration and will keep your body feeling its best during your dive.

Watch your air gauge- Your diving instructor will make sure you are well informed about all the equipment you will be using during your dive. One of the most important pieces  is the air gauge. Beginners use more air since you are just learning how to breathe with the equipment. Make sure to pay attention to it and if you need more air, let your instructor know. This also leads into the next point.

Talk to your instructor- Whether you have a question about a marine animal or need help with your equipment, don’t be afraid to ask, especially when it comes to equipment. Safety comes first so if you aren’t sure, your instructor will be happy to help.

Don’t forget to look up!- It can be easy to concentrate on what you see below the water. Coral reefs, schools of fish and more will be peaking out at you. However, take the chance to also look up. It not only gives you an idea of what their perspective is, but you may also be missing out on creatures that are above you! Always follow the ‘look, don’t touch’ policy when it comes to marine life.
