Scuba Diving Gear
If you are scuba diving Maui, particularly for the first time, you will have to familiarize yourself with what gear is needed. The proper scuba gear is important in order to have a safe dive. You want to make sure that you are very familiar with every piece that you need to use during your dive so that you know how to operate each piece correctly. See below for a brief list on some of the pieces that you will need prior to Maui scuba diving.
- Scuba Mask: The mask offers protection from the water and the particles that are within the water.
- Scuba Snorkel: This type of snorkel is important and necessary for swimming near the surface.
- Scuba BCD’s (buoyancy compensation device): This is a vest that you will wear similar to a backpack. Your scuba tank then attaches to the vest.
- Dive Fins: Fins are absolutely necessary as they help you move through the water easier. You don’t realize just how important your fins are until you try to swim without them.
- Dive Computer: This computer will help you keep track of vital information that occurs during your dive. This tracks how long you dive, how long you have before you need to surface, helps in all things dive planning related, and tracks all of your dive logs.
- Scuba Regulator & Octopus Setup: The scuba regulator allows you to breathe the air you have from your scuba tank. You will personally breathe off of the scuba regulator and if necessary your diving buddy will use your scuba octopus.
- Compass: Every diver should have a compass on them at all times. If necessary, this will help direct the diver back to the boat.
- Rash Guards: These are tight fitting long sleeve tops that help to protect your arms and torso from the elements. Rash guards are light weight and will shift easily when your body moves.
