Maintaining Scuba Equipment

If you are looking into Maui scuba tours, you have likely realized that scuba equipment can add up. It is helpful to purchase quality equipment in the beginning as soon as you realize that scuba diving is the right sport for you. Maui scuba tours are excellent ways to become accustomed to diving and to figure out if this is the right sport for you. If you have indeed determined your newfound love for scuba diving, you will want to maintain your new equipment. See below for a few tips on how to properly maintain your new equipment.

  1. Rinse with freshwater: It is important to remember to rinse out all of your scuba diving equipment after every use. Remember that salt, sun, and sand will corrode your gear over time. It is also important to note that you should never rinse your equipment with chlorinated water as it can do more damage than saltwater.
  2. Store in a dry place away from the sun: Your equipment will do its best in a dark and dry location. Your gear needs to dry out and UV rays can damage certain pieces.
  3. Hang outside: Your initial drying will likely take place outdoors but remember to turn your wetsuit inside out to help prevent UV damage. This also helps to ensure that the inside of your suit is always dry for the next dive. Long-term, remember to store all of your items in a dark and dry location to prevent excessive UV exposure. When hanging a wetsuit, we advise against using metal hangers as they can rust.
  4. Gentle care: Always set your equipment down carefully. Try to avoid placing things on the floor as they can be tripped over or stepped on. Treat your equipment with the gentle care that it deserves.
