Food and Scuba Diving
If you are considering your first time dive Maui you are likely considering what foods may be most helpful. If you are feeling a bit nervous before your first time dive Maui it is best to eat something early in the day to help settle your stomach. Keep in mind this is not the time to be testing out new local foods. Save that experience for another day. It is best to stick to tried and true foods that you know agree with your tastes and stomach. Solid starchy foods tend to help settle anxiety. A few ideal examples of these starchy foods are bread, plain pasta, rice, potatoes, oats, or nuts.
There are also a variety of foods that you will want to avoid before your first dive in particular. However, it is ideal to avoid these foods before every dive moves forward. You should avoid spicy curries and soups as well as heavy meals in general. You don’t want anything coming back up while you are diving. For the same reasons, you should equally avoid acidic fruits, asparagus, cauliflower, and broccoli.
You may notice that after your dive you feel you have really worked up an appetite. This is not all in your head as diving truly burns a great deal of calories. If you are feeling like you are completely famished after your dive it is best to have something warm and satisfying to help warm up your body. You may also notice that you are feeling extremely tired. A great remedy for this type of tiredness is either bananas, nuts, chips, or even cookies for a quick blast of sugar.
