DPV Scuba Diving in Maui
One of the most unique offerings that we have for experienced divers is the chance to do a Diver Propulsion Vehicle (DPV) dive here in beautiful Maui. This device is best used to tackle larger amounts of area since you will be able to move faster than you would with conventional fins. You will also conserve air, energy and time as you explore the deep.
Maui is one of the world’s best DPV diving locations with over 100 miles of stunning shoreline and lots of opportunities for exciting underwater adventures. Our custom dives mean that we work with you to design a dive that is fun and exciting while still building upon your current skills. Here are two popular dive spots.
Carthaginian-Once a replica whaleship of the original Carthaginianship, this second ship was actually converted into an artificial reef after maintenance costs above the water became too costly. Frogfish, Trumpet fish, turtles, sharks, and even rays can be found swimming through and around the sunken ship. You may even see a submarine full of other tourists passing by the wreck.
St. Anthony’s Shipwreck- This ship was purposely just like the Carthaginian sunk in 1997 and is about 70 feet under the surface. Many different sea creatures have now taken to calling this place home. Eels, octopus, and different species of fish are known to peruse around the wreckage.
Both of these dives are a great choice for beginner and intermediate divers who are looking to expand their skills with something that does not require intense levels of training. Different underwater scooter techniques are taught to accommodate the DPV such as buddy procedures, making proper descents and ascents, and more. The scooters we use provide easy mobility and you will take to it like a fish to water.
These underwater scooters are ideal for small groups, individual divers and serve as a great example of one of our guided dive tours. For beginner divers who are looking to become PADI certified, we also offer our course as one of our programs. Our family friendly dive tours in Maui are a hit with all ages and we look forward to seeing you soon.
